Job definitions are commonly left behind by packaging systems, as they do not remove configuration files when packages are upgraded or removed. It therefore becomes necessary for jobs to check that the binaries they expect to run exist before they can be started, usually in their pre-start script. This specification proposes introduction of a way for Upstart to check that these dependencies exist before it starts the job.
